Atlantic City has been ranked among the Top Ten Golf Cities in America by ForbesTraveler.com. The announcement made on March 6, 2009, ranks Atlantic City as number six among nine other top tier destinations.

“Atlantic City’s inclusion in ForbesTraveler.com’s listing of Top Ten Golf Cities in America shows that Atlantic City continues to be known for more than just its excellent gaming establishments,” said Jeffrey Vasser, president of the Atlantic City Convention & Visitors Authority. “Along with our celebrity chef-owned restaurants, headliner entertainment, unique attractions, and popular shopping opportunities, golf has become an important tourist attraction for Atlantic City.”

“This is a very distinguished list of golf destinations and I am extremely proud to have Atlantic City included in it,” said Brian Hoey, golf marketing manager for the Greater Atlantic City Golf Association.

Other destinations included in ForbesTraveler.com’s listing were Las Vegas, NV; Orlando, FL; Denver, CO; San Antonio, TX; Myrtle Beach and Charleston, SC; San Francisco, CA; Scottsdale/Phoenix, AZ; and Chicago, IL.

ForbesTraveler.com formulated the list by consulting with leading golf editors and writers, along with local experts. Golf cities included in the Top Ten list needed a concentration of courses, both good public and private courses, with a contribution to the history of golf. The Greater Atlantic City area offers more than 10 four-star or better public golf courses and is home to three of the top 100 private courses in the country. History also plays a vital role in Atlantic City as Atlantic City Country Club is the birth place of the term "Birdie" and Seaview Resort and Spa has been the host site for numerous professional tour events with winners that include Sam Snead and Annika Sorenstam.
