Summer Playhouse Children's Theater
Wednesday, July 8 – The Emperor’s New Clothes – This delightful, funny re-telling of the Hans Christian Andersen fairytale will win over children of all ages. It is an energetic ensemble play with audience participation. The vain and childish emperor is duped by two schemers who convince him they can make him a unique suit of clothes that is not only beautiful, but magical – it can only be seen by those who are honest. Afraid he will not be able to see the cloth himself, the emperor enlists the aid of his two ministers, who complicate matters when they are afraid to admit they cannot see it.

Wednesday, July 15 – Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs – Seven dwarfs, a beautiful girl, a jealous queen, a magic mirror and a poisoned apple create a diabolical combination in this musical adaptation of the classic Grimm fairy tale.

Wednesday, July 22 – The Perfect Dog – Inspired by New York Times' best-selling author, John O'Hurley's book, The Perfect Dog, Sam, a 12-year-old perfectionist, searches for a flawless dog to enter in the town's dog contest. Unable to find a canine that measures up, Sam must resort to training the family dog, Max, who is less than eager to obey commands. In the end, Sam and Max learn there is no such thing as perfect, but there is such a thing as being perfect for each other.

Wednesday, July 29 – Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day – Alexander is having a bad day. A terrible day. A horrible day. To be quite honest, it's a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. In this delightful adaptation of her popular book, Judith Viorst sets Alexander's trying life to music and brings to stage one of America's feistiest characters. Not only does Alexander wake up with gum in his hair, but his mother forgets to pack him dessert, and his best friend decides he is not his best friend anymore. And if that is not bad enough, Alexander's brothers do not have any cavities but he does. And just when it cannot get any worse, there are lima beans for supper and kissing on TV. It is enough to make anyone want to go to Australia. Alexander's struggles with life's daily dramas will not only entertain but educate young audiences as they identify with Alexander and the obstacles he encounters, encouraging them to share their feelings and to realize that bad days happen – even in Australia.

Wednesday, Aug. 5 – The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig – This is a new musical based on the popular book of the same title by Eugene Trivizas. When it comes time for the three little wolves to go out into the world and build themselves a house, their mother warns them to beware the big bad pig. But the little wolves' increasingly sturdy dwellings are no match for the persistent porker, who has more up his sleeve than huffing and puffing. It takes a chance encounter with a flamingo pushing a wheelbarrow full of flowers to provide a surprising and satisfying solution to the little wolves' housing crisis.

Morris Day & The Time
Morris E. Day is an American musician, composer and actor. He is best known as the lead singer of The Time. In high school, Day was in a band with Prince and André Cymone and the trio formed an early band managed by Day's mother called "Grand Central," later renamed "Champagne." Later, Prince embarked on a solo career but retained Cymone for his backing band. The two began to plan a side group that would focus more on R&B, while Prince would continue to explore various musical styles. The Time was composed of 4 members from an earlier funk group called "Flyte Tyme," but the lead singer had not been chosen. Charles Alexander Cobb, of Saint Paul, was considered but he turned it down. Sue Ann Carwell was auditioned; and Alexander O'Neal nearly became The Time's lead singer, but dropped out due to payment negotiations. Day, who was now in a band called "Enterprise", allowed Prince to have a song called "Partyup" for his Dirty Mind album, and Prince would soon return the favor by giving Day the job of lead singer. Day would suggest guitarist Jesse Johnson, who completed the band's ensemble.
