Spas for Brahs: The Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa

Guys, we have to take better care of ourselves. I mean, we’re just gross. Our feet are disgusting, we barely trim our nails, our pores are clogged with God knows what– I think it’s time for a spa trip. But not just any spa trip – a trip to the world-famous Borgata Hotel, Casino & Spa in Atlantic City that specializes in spa treatments for men.

So, if you’re new to the spa world (which most men are), there are some terms we’ll need to quickly define so you understand what you’re getting into.

Wikipedia defines a facial as “a procedure involving a variety of skin treatments, including: steam, exfoliation, extraction, creams, lotions, facial masks, peels, and massage.” Basically, it’s to make your face look healthier, younger and just overall better. The Immersion Spa at Borgata has just the facial for guys: the Men’s Sports Facial. In addition to your muscles and ego, playing sports can also damage your skin. Sure, you’ll never hear Manning take the bench because of clogged pores, but that doesn’t mean he couldn’t use a good face massage.

The mud body float at the Borgata spa is a little different than the classic “mud bath” you probably imagined when you read that title. The Borgata describes their Moor Mud Body Float as being “excellent for tired muscles, aching joints, and dull skin, this treatment revives the body by stimulating circulation and lymphatic drainage.” We guys are usually guilty of all three of those, and we usually don’t mind getting a little muddy. The whole process starts with exfoliating your skin which basically means they scrub your body and remove all the dead skin. Keep in mind, this is a spa, so the scrubbing probably feels really good. After that, they slather you with some mineralized mud as you lay on their “floatation table.” The mud and the table rejuvenate your skin and muscles, leaving you relaxed and happy you made the appointment. Following the mud, you step in the shower and rinse off, then get a deep tissue massage. Sounds pretty great, right?

This isn’t your get-naked-and-lay-face-down-on-the-table kind of massage. A Thai massage from The Borgata is a lot less awkward and a lot more relaxing. In fact, you’re encouraged to wear loose clothing. Described as an “assisted yoga massage,” this type of massage uses rhythmic compressions and different stretching techniques to help you relax and rejuvenate. It’s great for athletes, both professional and recreational. So, after a game of pick-up basketball or a long stroll on the Boardwalk, book your appointment at The Borgata.

If The Borgata spa is booked, AC has plenty of other top-notch places where you can find fantastic spa treatments for men.
