AC Funny Business brings a barrel of laughs

“Did you hear about the compulsive gambler who took a 9-5 job in Atlantic City? He said the work was okay but the odds were pretty good.” OK, maybe it’s not the best joke, but the odds are definitely in your favor when looking for mirth and merriment in Atlantic City.

If you missed NBC’s Last Comic Standing, the Live Tour is coming to Atlantic City October 4th at the Golden Nugget. Touring are the five funny finalists on stage October 4 at the Golden Nugget: Rocky LaPorte, Lachlan Patterson, Nikki Carr, Joe Machi and the LCS winner, Rod Man. The contestants periodically met with a mentor, who provided personal advice to help them advance and tips to improve their improv. Two of those mentors are also bringing their comedic talent to Atlantic City: the Borgata’s Comedy Club at the Music Box will host Amy Schumer on October 11 and Wanda Sykes will be entertaining November 7.

The laughter continues Columbus Day weekend (Oct 11-12) for the 5th annual AC Comedy festival at Atlantic City’s iconic Boardwalk Hall. Making an appearance are: Corey Holcomb, Adele Givens, John Witherspoon, Gary Owen, Aries Spears and Huggy Lowdown on Saturday night; Mike Epps, Rickey Smiley, Earthquake, Dominique and Cipha Sounds on Sunday. Both shows start at 8 p.m.

Catch “Shut Up, Sit Down & Eat,” on October 17-19 at The Borgata. This hilarious story follows a dysfunctional Italian family who takes group therapy into their own hands. The Borgata will also host Jim Breuer, Frank Caliendo, Jerry Seinfeld and Lewis Black in late 2014.

For all-year-long laughter, there’s always the Comedy Stop Café & Caberet in the Quarter at the Tropicana. Typically a trio of comedians performs nightly at 9 pm and new acts rotate weekly. If you need more laughter in your life then join the Frequent Laughter Miles Club for discounts, announcements, VIP seating and a free show.

Got kids? Bring them to the Comedy Stop early (6 p.m.) for Joe Holiday’s Magic and Mayhem, a family-friendly comedy magic show happening every night except Wednesdays.

For more funny business around town, you’ll howl at the hilarity of:
