2015 Miss America Pageant Coming to AC

As the countdown to the 2015 Miss America Pageant continues, Miss America Organization staff and volunteers are busy with preparations. The 53 contestants will arrive in Atlantic City shortly after Labor Day and prepare for the beginning of the pageant on September 11.

Although this is the 94th Miss America Pageant, Atlantic City has only been the Home of Miss America for 86 years. Las Vegas held that honor from 2005 – 2012. Last year marked the thrilling return of the pageant to its original home.

In July one recent winner, Miss Kentucky Ramsey Carpenter, said she was excited to be coming to the original home of the pageant. “I want to see the history and be part of a great experience,” she said.

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the first live telecast of Miss America (on ABC). Sam Haskell, CEO of the Miss America Organization (MAO), said “The national broadcast is good for us (MAO) and good for Atlantic City for the promotional value it generates.”

The 2015 Miss America Pageant will see a different judging structure than in years past. Previously there were two judging panels – one composed of experts, the other was a panel of celebrities. This year, the two panels will be combined and include both expert and celebrity judges.

Contestants are judged in four categories: lifestyle and fitness (swimsuit), artistic expression (talent), presence and poise (evening gown) and presentation and community achievement (interview).

The 53 contestants in the 2015 Miss America Pageant first met each other in late July at the Miss America Outstanding Teen competition in Orlando, part of the Miss America schedule. Since then they’ve been polishing interview skills, perfecting their talent pieces, eating healthy and keeping fit – plus meeting with gown designer Tony Bowls and swimsuit sponsor Catalina.

The 2015 Miss America schedule of events:

September 3: Arrival of the 53 contestants, representing each state, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
September 11-13: Preliminary Competition
September 13: Miss America Show Me Your Shoes Parade
September 14: Final night of competition and a new Miss America crowned
